A DOT Physical is required for people who drive commercial vehicles

This is to make sure that drivers are physically, mentally and emotionally fit
-
the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires this testing for public safety
-
You will need a DOT Physical if you:

Are paid to drive a vehicle designed to carry more than 8 people
-
Drive a vehicle designed to carry more than 15 people
-
Carry hazardous material in your vehicle that requires your vehicle to have a placard
-
Drive a vehicle on the interstate with a gross combination weight rating of 10,000 pounds (5 tons) or more

Your physical exam will include :

A vision test

A hearing test

Blood pressure and pulse checks

Urine test
-
General physical examination

Once you pass your physical, you will receive a Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC) - which is the DOT medical card. This will be good for 2 years
